The Lure of Florida Fishing
Repeats daily until 08/26/14

Discover how the Sunshine State got hooked on fishing at this special exhibit exploring the rise of sport fishing in Florida. Learn about the growth of recreational fishing in the late 19th-century and how it became such a popular past-time today. More than 100 artifacts, including tackle, trophies and fish mounts highlight significant periods in Florida’s angling history. Stunning paintings by William Aiken Walker and Stanley Meltzoff depict the natural beauty of aquatic life. You can even try your hand at Florida fishing on a Nintendo Wii. Catch The Lure of Florida Fishing at the Museum of Florida History from March 14 to August 26. Parking and admission are free.

At 5:00 p.m., enjoy American folk music by Kim Thomas and George Boggs. Gordos caters dinner for $10 for members and $15 for nonmembers. At 7:00 p.m. Tallahassee Democrat columnist Jerry Gerardi draws on fifty-plus years’ of angling to describe the evolution of sport fishing in Florida—from “then to now.” 3rd Thursday offers a monthly opportunity to visit the Museum of Florida History in the evening. The program, music, and parking are free.
