Patricia Stephens Due
Civil Rights Activist
Quincy native Patricia Stephens Due (1939–) was active in the civil rights movement of the 1960s. While a student at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, she led sit-ins at a Woolworth’s lunch counter and protests against the Florida Theatre, both of which banned African Americans. She was arrested and jailed for her activities. In addition, Due led a voter registration drive for blacks in north Florida. Due continued to work for civil rights after college.
