Osceola Quilt

Quilts represent a wide array of artistic expression, from acting as a way to memorialize loved ones, to creating portraits of well-known figures, and many other ways in between. Here we see a quilted portrait of the Seminole leader Osceola titled, Osceola, Indian Warrior, based on the 1838 portrait by artist George Catlin. Quilter Rita Denenberg hand sewed and quilted the work in 1987. (Collection of the Museum of Florida History)
