The Medal of Honor is the highest award for valor in action against an enemy force which can be bestowed upon an individual serving in the Armed Services of the United States. Generally presented to the recipient by the President of the United States of America in the name of Congress, it is often referred to as the Congressional Medal of Honor. The State of Florida recognizes and honors those who are accredited, or associated by birth, to the State of Florida, who through their conspicuous bravery and gallantry during wartime, and at considerable risk to their own lives, were made recipients of the Medal. In doing so, these members of our Armed Forces brought great credit upon themselves, their military units, and the State of Florida. The seven World War II honorees are: Cecil Hamilton Bolton, Robert Edward Femoyer, David McCampbell, Thomas Buchanan McGuire, Jr., Robert Miller McTureous, Jr., James Henry Mills, and Alexander Ramsey Nininger.
