Ellis Buckner, the younger brother of George Buckner, grew up in Gifford, Florida. The Buckner brothers labored in the citrus groves together. Ellis was the first of the brothers to begin painting, and he surprised George with a bundle of cash he had made by selling his art. Both brothers pursued this new way of making a living. More outgoing than George, Ellis was a better salesman and sold both his and his brother’s works. Eventually, the two opened their own gallery in Cutler Ridge near Miami.
