"The Freedman’s Saving and Trust Company, to the great gratification of the depositors, and colored people generally of this city, has effected the purchase of the beautiful fireproof building known as the 'Union Bank,' in which it has been doing business of some time past. This is one of the finest, if not the finest, bank building in the state of Florida, and the people are almost lost in wonder at the turn events have taken." William G. The Tallahassee Branch of the Freedman's Savings and Trust Company was housed in the Union Bank building from 1869 to 1874,
