  • The Flying Ace stars Lawrence Criner and Kathryn Boyd, two well-known African American actors of the time. Criner appears as a heroic World War I fighter pilot. He returns home and, with help from Peg Reynolds, rescues Boyd’s character and her father from railroad thieves. Billed as “the greatest airplane thriller ever filmed,” it was shot entirely on the ground. The Flying Ace grossed nearly $20,000, making it Norman Studios’ most profitable film.
